To understand the complexity of the Quebec referendum we
need to piece together its vital elements to gain a reasonably
accurate overview of the entire process. Such is the objective
of this article. I call it mapping a political event. Who are
the principal actors, what are their major strategies and what
are the key influences orienting their actions. Or, to
paraphrase an old political science definition, who is doing what to
whom, why and how?
