Fun things to do near you on Valentine's Day

Outdoor adventures, culture, outings and getaways

If you're looking for fun and original things to do in New Brunswick with your better half or your friends to celebrate Valentine's Day this year, read on to check out our favourites. From outdoor adventures to cultural outings to foodie hot spots, here are some great ideas for activities with your special someone (some of which may even include chocolate!).

Sports offerings for skiing or snowboarding enthusiasts

New Brunswick is famous for its nature and countless winter activities, possibly because it also happens to be the snowiest province in the Maritimes! Fans of downhill skiing will enjoy hitting some of the province's slopes, whether at Crabbe Mountain, Sugarloaf Park or Mont Farlagne, while those who love a variety of sports can do them all in a single day at Centre plein air Mont Farlagne. When the sun sets, take advantage of the special rates (among the lowest across Canada!) available at numerous hotels and other short-term accommodations providers.

Cultural activities: rediscover our museums

There's something undeniably romantic about museums and historic sites. If you're in the Edmundston area, spend a few hours at the Madawaska Historical Museum and immerse yourself in the lives of the first inhabitants of the "Republic of Madawaska". Planning a getaway to Moncton? Don't forget to make time for a visit to the Musée acadien. The world's leading museum of Acadian culture, it houses a permanent collection on the Evangeline phenomenon. What could be more romantic?

If you're in the Acadian Peninsula, you'll want to explore the enchanting streets of the Village historique acadien. Those whose Valentine happens to have four legs should note that dogs (on a leash) are also welcome.

Food and beverage: explore our local microbreweries

Are you leaning toward a meal at a special restaurant? This is always an excellent choice since the main purpose of Valentine's Day is to share special time with a loved one. Will you be going out for a pre-dinner drink? You can never go wrong with cocktails at a trendy bar, but why not instead consider visiting one of our province's many (and the number keeps rising due to demand) microbreweries? If you're near Bathurst, a stop at Four Rivers Brewing Co. (which recently celebrated its first anniversary!) is a must. In Moncton, drop by the Tide & Boar Gastropub, where the food is so good you may also want to stay for supper. If you're in the Edmundston area, you'll want to try Les Brasseurs du Petit-Sault with its selection of Belgian-inspired beers, while in Tracadie, Les Brasseux d'la côte offers a tasty line-up of local products on tap as well as an infectious good vibe. English-speaking lovers of theatre and good cheer can enjoy both by spending an evening at the latest show served up by the actors and musicians at McSweeney's Dinner Theatre.

Valentine's Day is an opportunity to spend some special time with your partner or someone else dear to you. Take advantage of this chance to step away from your daily routine and celebrate the day of love!
