Network and Systems Administrator

Reporting to the it Infrastructure and Operations Manager, the Administrator is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting and developing all aspects of UNI’s physical, virtual and cloud-based IT infrastructure. Their job is to make our infrastructure highly reliable and efficient by applying best practices in information security.

The Network & Systems Administrator will be primarily responsible for:

  • Planning and implementing technological changes and ensuring those solutions are working properly
  • Improving and revising the succession plan and exercise and the maintenance plan
  • Recommending changes to established methods and procedures, and suggesting alternatives and new methods to improve quality
  • Developing and maintaining tools and scripts (Bash or PowerShell) to automate tasks related to system verification and monitoring (Nagios) and performing post-implementation follow-up to ensure systems availability
  • Supervising the work of various vendors
  • Administering server solutions such as Active Directory, GPO, DHCP, DNS, SFTP and MDM
  • Administering global backup solutions (Veeam) for the company
  • Performing server updates and managing update tools
  • Managing and maintaining various environments (DNS, on-premises Exchange and cloud)
  • Managing server rooms (cabinet, UPS, air conditioning, alarm, etc.)
  • Deploying software
  • Deploying patches and updates on telecommunications and network equipment
  • Creating reports on demand
  • Acting as an expert and ensuring the management of Level 3 incidents in the network, telecommunications and security environments


We are seeking someone with a bachelor’s degree or a college diploma in computer science and at least five (5) years of experience in a similar position in a complex technical environment. A working knowledge of English and French, both written and spoken, is required. Any equivalent training and experience will be considered.

  • Good knowledge of information security principles and practices
  • Good understanding of information security administration in Windows, Linux or cloud environments (Azure/O365, AWS)
  • Knowledge of cloud environments (Azure, O365, Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Knowledge of Linux (RHEL/CentOS)
  • Extensive knowledge of Windows server environments
  • Extensive knowledge of Exchange and Active Directory
  • Extensive knowledge of backup systems
  • Good knowledge of virtualization (VMware) and storage environments (VSAN/HPE 3PAR)
  • Knowledge of Ansible is an asset
  • Knowledge of infrastructure as code (Terraform) is an asset
  • Knowledge of a CI/CD tool (Azure DevOps) is an asset
  • ITIL 4
