Launching of the 8th Annual Northern Star Campaign

Hospital foundations in northeastern New Brunswick are launching their 8th Annual Northern Star Campaign in partnership with the region's caisses populaires. Starting this morning, staff members of the Caisses populaires acadiennes and their points of service will invite the public to support this campaign, which aims to improve health care services in our region. Mini Christmas trees costing $2, $5, $10, $25, $50, and $100 will be sold throughout the region's caisses populaires.

“Since 2005, a total of $427,267 has been raised through the Northern Star Campaign to improve health care services in our region. In addition to forging strong ties with our community members, this campaign helps raise public awareness of the urgent needs within our hospitals. It is in this context of collective awareness that we will succeed in meeting these challenges.  For more information or to make a donation, log on to: etoilenord.ca," said Aldo Mallet, Chairman of the Northern Star Campaign for the Chaleur Regional Hospital.

Local schools are participating in their own way this year. Each school wishing to become a partner in this activity will receive a bottle of water for each student. Once empty, each student will be invited to fill their bottle with pennies between now and Christmas in order to show that together they can make a difference.

The lighting of dedicated Christmas trees, holiday-themed figures, and community fir trees near the hospitals will also take place on December 1. Local residents are invited to participate and show their support.

The overall goal for this year's Northern Star Campaign is $70,000; the money will be divided among the Chaleur Regional Hospital Foundation Inc., the Friends of Healthcare Foundation, the Fondation Hôpital de l’Enfant-Jésus Inc. 1988, the Fondation de l’Hôpital de Lamèque Inc., and the Fondation Les Amis de l’Hôpital de Tracadie Inc. in support of their respective projects.
