Notes about Jean-Guy Frenette

Ordre du Mérite Coopératif Acadien, 3rd degree

Jean-Guy Frenette was born in October 1950 in the Chaleur region. He attended elementary and secondary school in Robertville, before moving on to postsecondary studies in physical education at Université de Moncton. He and his spouse Pauline have two children, Lyne and Véronique.

He is now retired after teaching for more than 31 years in different northern New Brunswick schools. He was also at one point school principal.

Throughout his career, Jean-Guy Frenette took training courses and received many certifications which he used throughout his professional career. In 1982, he received a Certificate 2 from Leadership Institute National Coaching Certification Program, in 1995, a Certificate 5 in Special Education, and in 1999, a Principal’s Certificate, all from Université de Moncton.

Jean-Guy Frenette dedicated a good part of his free time to sports and community initiatives. He was a member of the Société des Jeux de l’Acadie’s sports development committee (from 1985 to 1991), a member of the executive office and provincial representative of the Canadian Intramural Recreation Association (from 1992 to 1997), and a member of the board of directors of the Jeux des Aînés 50+ (from 2007 to 2016).

His involvement in the cooperative family started in 1986, when he agreed to be responsible of the school Caisse program at the Robertville school where he was teaching. He then became member of the board of directors of the Robertville Caisse populaire and served as its vice-president from 1997 to 1999. After the merger of the Robertville Caisse populaire with those of Petit-Rocher and Pointe-Verte, which then became the Caisse populaire des Fondateurs, he held office as administrator of the new institution in 2005 and, in 2006, he became its vice-president.

In 2007, he became president of the Caisse populaire des Fondateurs. From 2012 to the end of his term in 2014, he was president of the Association des présidents et présidentes des Caisses populaires acadiennes. It should also be mentioned that in 2007, he became a member and vice-president of the board of directors of the Coopérative de développement régional Acadie, a position he still holds to this day.

Mr. Frenette is known for his quality and constant commitment to his career and to the cooperative world. This commitment was spread to the local, regional and provincial levels. This exemplary heritage is why we are presenting Mr. Frenette with the most important distinction that can be given to the people of our Mouvement: the 3rd degree Ordre du Mérite Coopératif Acadien.

Notes about Jean-Eudes Larocque

Ordre du Mérite Coopératif Acadien, 1st degree

Jean-Eudes Larocque was born in May 1947. As soon as he finished primary school, he followed in his grandfather’s footsteps and learned the ins and outs of the fisherman’s profession.

This passion for the sea and for fishing has never wavered. Even though he is retired, he still takes to the sea every spring for lobster fishing. Married to Jeanne-Mance Gionet, he is the father of three children: Stéphane, Justin and Sylvette.

Through his professional activities, Mr. Larocque was called to contribute to various community and cooperative organisations in his region as a volunteer. In addition to his many years spent volunteering in the St-Raphaël parish, he was also a founding member of the St-Raphaël Knights of Columbus Council 8706. In 1977, he was chosen as wharf representative for the St-Raphaël inshore fishermen and in 2003, he became director of the Association Chasse et Pêche des îles Lamèque et Miscou.

As part of his exemplary involvement within the cooperative movement, he is a founding member (1982) of the Association coopérative des pêcheurs côtiers de St‑Raphaël, an organisation in which he still serves as an administrator. In 1986, he was a member of the Association coopérative des pêcheurs de l’île ltée’s board of directors, and served many terms (1986 to 1994, 1996 to 2004 and 2007 to 2016) while being president of the organization from 2012 to 2016. From 1998 to 2003, he was also administrator of the St-Raphaël Caisse populaire. It should also be mentioned that Mr. Larocque was inducted into the Mouvement’s Quarter Century Club in 2015 in recognition of his many years of service as a volunteer.

During his entire life, Jean-Eudes Larocque generously and dynamically invested countless hours in his community as a volunteer. He was a pillar of many cooperative organizations in his area and still contributes to their development. This exemplary heritage is why we are presenting Mr. Frenette with the most important distinction that can be given to the people of our Mouvement: the 1st degree Ordre du Mérite Coopératif Acadien.
