Université de Moncton and UNI Financial Cooperation launch UNILab InnovIA to accelerate artificial intelligence innovation in the financial sector
Moncton, June 10, 2026 – Université de Moncton and UNI Financial Cooperation announced today, during a news conference held on the Moncton campus, the launch of UNILab InnovIA, a collaborative research laboratory that will showcase artificial intelligence (AI) in support of financial innovation and economic development in New Brunswick.
The result of a strategic partnership between the two organizations, UNILab InnovIA will combine Université de Moncton’s scientific expertise and UNI’s practical, field experience to design, develop, and test AI solutions addressing real needs in the financial sector.
Developed with the contribution of faculty members Moulay Akhloufi and Fadoua Khennou, and with support from Université de Moncton’s Innovation Support Office, the laboratory is intended to be a place where research, scientific expertise, and innovation come together to generate tangible benefits for organizations and communities.
“UNILab InnovIA demonstrates our commitment to putting university research to work on real social issues. As part of our Cap sur l’avenir 2023-2028 strategy, this partnership will mobilize our leading-edge expertise in artificial intelligence to create innovative solutions while providing our students with unique training opportunities.” said Dr. Denis Prud’homme, President and Vice-Chancellor of the Université de Moncton.
Université de Moncton has recognized expertise in artificial intelligence, supported by its laboratories, research groups, specialized centre and chairs in the field. This research capacity allows it to work with partners in developing advanced technologies and high-impact solutions.
UNILab InnovIA will focus its initial work on several priority themes, including internal process optimization, credit risk management, and fraud detection.
For UNI, this initiative represents an opportunity to strengthen its innovation capacity while accelerating the development of technical solutions tailored to the realities of the sector.

Beyond research initiatives, UNILab InnovIA is part of a long-term vision to make New Brunswick a centre of excellence in applied artificial intelligence for the financial services sector and to foster the emergence of large-scale national collaborations.
